Frequently Asked Questions
What to expect before, during, and after your massage
How should I prepare for my treatment?
Schedule your massage at a time when it is good for you—when you don't have too many pressing concerns, or upcoming activities. Arrive freshly showered or bathed, drink plenty of water, and give yourself time to arrive, ask questions, and ease into the process. Hydration is important to massage aftercare; I recommend bringing a bottle of water.
What should I expect from my first session?
Before we begin, the process will be outlined and all of your questions answered. We'll discuss your health history and how we can get the most from your treatment. A massage is typically received while nude, though it's most important that you feel comfortable. If you'd like to leave on underwear, you're welcome to! Genitals, breasts, and any other areas that you specify will never be exposed or touched. During the treatment, grape seed oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, analgesic salves, CBD cream, warm towels, and music are employed—but if you are sensitive to these, they can be adjusted or left out. Communication is key to the entire process, so I'll check in throughout the massage to make sure you are comfortable and able to relax. Remember: You're in charge! My goal is to ensure your comfort and relaxation, if you experience any discomfort with pressure levels or techniques, I want to know.
What happens after the massage?
After the massage, I'll leave the room and let you take a minute to ground yourself. When you're ready, you'll get dressed and prepare to leave my office. Staying hydrating following a massage supports your muscles and helps flush toxins through the lymphatic system. You should feel relaxed following a massage, so it is ideal to leave some time between your massage and the next thing on your agenda to decompress, reflect, and enjoy. Take the day off if you can and continue to relax and practice self-care.
How will I feel comfortable on a massage table if I'm naked?
Please be aware that this is a nonsexual massage and totally professional. It's important that you feel comfortable during your massage so that you can relax and enjoy it. If you're uncomfortable with undressing entirely you are welcome to leave your underwear on. Don't be afraid to bring up any of your apprehensions, and please be assured that my massage practice is a safe and confidential space. I will never be in the room while you are dressing or undressing, and throughout the massage, only the part of the body being worked on is exposed, everything else is covered with a blanket. If there are any parts of your body that you don't want exposed or worked on, just let me know.
How can I get the most from my massage?
Be as open to the process as you can.
Relax and try to let your thoughts go. One way to do this is to focus on how the touch or technique feels.
Remember to breathe slow deep breaths, as this helps you relax. Sometimes people hold their breath when a sensitive, tight, or tender area is massaged, but it is best to breathe through it.
In the same way, tightening your muscles during the massage is counterproductive. If you can't seem to relax your muscles, let me know. I may need to adjust the massage technique or pressure.
Please communicate openly with me so I may address your needs as best as possible.
What are the benefits of a massage?
The benefits of massage are vast and include relaxation for the mind and body, reduced muscle tension, improved circulation, and increased joint mobility and overall flexibility. Massage can also help in the recovery of certain injuries and can be beneficial during pregnancy.
Is the location accessible for all bodies?
Yes. The studio is on the ground level floor and there are no steps to enter. Bathrooms are non gendered single stall. Parking is free but there are no designated handicap spaces.
Where exactly are you located?
We are on the north east corner of Central and 12th street. 1123 Kent Ave NW is the address but sometimes GPS takes people around back of the building or on tours of the neighborhood. We have a parking lot on the south-side of our building, and the front of the building faces Central Avenue. Our building is white and sand colored. We are directly next door to our lovely neighbors Canna Buena Marijuana Dispensary. The front door to our building is and remains locked at all times so it is best if you simply text “Hi, this is ….. I’m here, waiting outside.” to 505-453-0293.
How do I pay?
You will be charged a nonrefundable $30 deposit when you book your appointment online, paid via credit card. You will have the option to pay in full or you can pay the remaining balance at your appointment, plus New Mexico sales tax (8%). I prefer cash, but also accept Venmo, Apple pay, or credit card. Tips are graciously accepted and typically range from 10-20% depending on the service that you received during your time with us.
Is this a safe space?
This is a safe and inclusive space. My practice is responsive to trauma and my aim is to make everyone feel safe and nurtured. I understand the vulnerability that comes with receiving a massage and I am honored to provide these services to clients of all backgrounds, cultures, and identities.
